FRENCH STREET FKA MARCIA
I explore my Jamaican Heritage, specifically by deconstructing vernacular photographs of my parents and friends in their youth (whilst growing up in Spanish Town) to explore the many facets of the them ‘absence’.
These photographs are one of a kind and physically cannot be developed again.
I tried to consider the value of a singular photograph as an affective object. I analysed how domestic photography plays a key part in the formation of black cultural identity, and has allowed me to celebrate the unique style narratives of the people in my family album.
This project is about story telling and in honour of this, the collection will be showcased to the words of Poet Maia Ojerinde-Ardella. (@maiawithwords)
